Cinnabar-in-Opal

This interesting gemstone is a white opal or "potch opal" that has been stained by red cinnabar.  It is extremely hard to extract from its parent rock, which adds to the expense of this unusual gemstone.  Some concern has been expressed in the past about wearing anything with cinnabar (which is a mercury-bearing ore) next to the skin; but others have pointed out that even over a long period the amount of mercury absorbed by the body will likely be much less than that received from most tooth fillings.  Perhaps the best course would be to wear this Sterling Silver pendant over clothing rather than on bare skin.  #1815  (to see more Opal Pendants, click here)

Meteorite

Meteorites have been considered sacred by many cultures.  One of the best sources of iron in a time when smelting processes were primitive, there are many stories of magical swords being crafted of "sky iron".

Nickel-Iron meteorites may be useful for communication, especially with angelic and extraterrestrial beings.  They strengthen psychic powers and aid in meditation.  They are said to store information from other dimensions.

The unique crystal structure, called "Widmanstatten lines" is caused by the meteor cooling in the zero gravity and extremely low temperatures of space.  These lines can be revealed by etching the meteorite with nitric acid.

This specimen is a piece of the Mundrabilla meteorite, which was discovered in 1911 on the Nullarbor Plain of Western Australia.  Wrapped in Sterling Silver, the overall dimensions are 1" x 2 3/8" and the meteorite weighs 17.82 grams.  Do not use either water or salt to cleanse, as the iron will oxidize. #1780
